Orthopaedics Centers at U. Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, U. New Mex.,

Objective: Create an paperless, interactive patient management system for multi-center
research in orthopaedics. Have it done such that patient confidentiality is assured.
Method: Converted all the normal paper-based forms into HTML and Adobe-Acrobat for
exact printing. Color coded forms to record completeness, associated department, and
levels of detail. Created real-time reports and create dynamic graphs for displaying
raw data as well as statistical significance
(later released as PHPLOT).
Set up threaded forums with the ability to upload images for electronic conferencing.
All scripts are in PHP so that various organizations need only an
HTML browser - no client side scripting and
EXACTLY the same results.
Result: Major savings in processing time and syncronization across medical centers.
Project now (as of Feb 2001) in its second year of operation. Local network administators
happy becauase no upgrades to client software required or being forced to change browsers.
